Jorvik Viking Centre: The Amazing Spaceship Earth Of The UK?!

In the UK we have a whole host of things to see and do around the country!

We have Theme Parks, Museum Tours, we even have giant garden centres that take years to walk around!

However one thing that many not know about is our random and strange, stand-alone.... Dark Rides!

This is where I bring in the Jorvik Viking Centre in York!

Aimed at taking you on a journey to when the city of York was once a viking settlement and all through the medium of a large and incredibly immersive ride!

I want to touch on a few things that really stood out for me, during my visit to the attraction...

Theming and Animatronics!

While you fly around the immense show building looking at the various show scenes, you will almost continuously find impressive animatronics!

Now don't get me wrong here, these are not on the same level of Disney ( but are any ever?) more a strong contender in the UK if not Europe!

The theming was second to none!

The physical sets one passes through really are expansive! From buildings to huts, farm lands and markets!

I was blown away and so pleased that at no point in the ride experience did this dip in quality!

Throughout your experience you will also find the use of some great special effects! Smell Pods, Projection Mapping and physical effects were all here!

This not only adds to the overall value of the production, but shows how keen Jorvik is to set themselves apart as one of the UK's leading visitor attractions!

Ride System

So I briefly wanted to talk about the ride system.

If you have ever been on a 'Peter Pan' ride at any Disney Park, you will understand where I am going with this.

You sit, or should that be 'Fly' on a car, which is suspended by a track overhead... Think along the lines of a sort of inverted omni-mover.

The car's offer two seating options, with the back seats slightly raised to give a better vantage point!

The car's themselves also have interactive screens in which you use to help guide your experience
( it would be cool If there was more interaction with this throughout the ride)

Overall, a unique system that I really haven't seen anywhere else in the UK.

Wrap Up:

Wrapping Up then I would have to say it is worth a visit!

The best part is that your ticket is valid for the rest of the year, which means endless re-rides for your initial admission price!

I highly would recommend a trip to the Jorvik Viking Centre up in York for a fun afternoon filler for all the family!

Have you visited the attraction? What were your thoughts?
