A Wonderful Cackling Creation: 'Room On The Broom: A Magical Journey' - Review

As a theme park enthusiast who grew up in the early 2000's, I have certain attractions that will forever main nostalgic.

So when a park announces that the change of one of these is happening, sometimes, it can be a bitter pill to swallow.

In this particular case, the park is Chessington World Of Adventures and the attraction, Hocus Pocus Hall ( a childhood classic of mine ) was said to get the chop, in favour for a re-fit to the characters and story of 'Room On The Broom' a famous children's book particularly in the UK.

While this attraction has been around for a bit of time now... September 2020 was my first time experiencing it... so I wanted to share my thoughts.

Before I begin, I must say, I visited during the enhanced Covid Measures... so I'm not sure if things would have changed because of this? Or If the attraction would differ in anyway in a normal operations situation.

So with that out the way....

Let's go!

Spectacular Set Pieces

The first thing I wanted to touch on was the quite apparent transformation of the building itself.

While the route had not massively changed... the set pieces inside most defiantly had!

I really was impressed at the sale of the animatronics used throughout, not to mention the various environments you move through.

Elements dropping from the sky in a dramatic reveal, large scenes taking up entire walls from floor to ceiling, it's clear the park really paid attention to detail on this attraction!

Subsequently... I never felt like I was aware of the previous hocus pocus layout and that it truly felt like a new attraction all together!

Interactive Gameplay

I loved the accompaniment of the various interactive games and tasks throughout the experience.

Too many walk through attractions can be bland, passive and therefore un-engaging, not in the case of Room On The Broom!

There was everything here for family's.. speed reaction games, scavenger hunts and eye spy style games.

Not only did this keep the story flowing, it encouraged team work, communication and just kept the exciting mystery of what was coming around the corner!

Mirror Maze Magic

Im going to be honest here....

Mirror Mazes are not my thing, especially the old version that existed in Hocus Pocus Hall.

So it was a pleasant surprise to see this had been done away with and reconfigured.

I simple walk through with audio and a couple of light up displays... lead to the large finale scene!

Fantastic Finale

Turning the corner into the finale room is a simply wonderful large scene...

With more impressive and surprising animatronics to wrap up the overall storyline of the attraction...

But the specifics... you will have to see for yourself!

Wrap Up:

Overall Chessington have created a wonderful attraction, gone away are the days of the chipped and tired Hocus Pocus Hall... to this fresh new addition that will simply delight families of all ages!

I can't recommend this more as a must-do on your visit to the park!

Congratulations to Chessington for creating such a wonderful experience for all! 10/10
